What this atlas contains

Hodos was created by Dr. Erion de Andrade, a neurosurgeon based in Porto Alegre, Brazil, focused on brain tumors, pituitary tumors and skull base surgery. Professional website ↗

This is group reference anatomy. The surfaces and pathways come from different atlas constructions using MNI coordinate conventions. Their juxtaposition is illustrative: no quantitative cross-atlas distance, endpoint connectivity or patient registration is claimed. Lesson text is an educational draft awaiting anatomical review. Research only · not navigation: nothing on these pages is registered to a patient or fit for surgical planning.

Cortical surface and parcels

HCP S1200 group-average midthickness surface, fs_LR 32k, MSMAll; 32,492 vertices per hemisphere. HCP-MMP1 labels use matching compressed vertex order and separate left/right tables. Clicking reports the nearest vertex of a surface triangle, without interpolating categorical labels.

Resting-state networks

Yeo-7 and Yeo-17 intrinsic functional connectivity networks (Yeo et al., 2011), estimated by clustering resting-state fMRI from 1,000 healthy adults and carried here as per-vertex labels on the same fs_LR 32k surface (resampled by the DiedrichsenLab fs_LR_32 project). A network is a population cluster of correlated signal at rest: it is not a task map, not a lesion–deficit map, and it says nothing about any individual patient. "Salience" in this viewer is the Yeo-7 ventral attention network, which finer parcellations split into salience and ventral-attention components. Only the 7-network set is exposed in the interface; the 17-network labels ship for later use. The network reported for a click is the label at that vertex, never an inference for the whole parcel.

Sampled reference pathways

HCP1065 population-average tractography, Yeh 2022. The reference preparation samples at most 220 streamlines per bundle and resamples each to 28 points. These are display paths, not axons or patient reconstructions. No tract length, conduction velocity or latency is inferred from their animation. Paired traces are a direction-neutral teaching effect.

Deep and inferior context

Melbourne Subcortex scale 1 supplies gross reference structures. Surfaces were extracted and smoothed by the reference pipeline; anterior/posterior thalamic regions are merged. No precise relay nucleus is identified. The inferior context mesh is a remainder of the MNI152NLin2009cAsym brain mask after cortical exclusion, not a named cerebellar or brainstem segmentation.

Preparation and attribution

Public web assets prepared by Amy Sterling, human-brain, revision e02876655d0216995340a9c153d37d49ff649078. Geometry and tract binary are unchanged. Hodos uses the TractLab reference pipeline to extract only the HCP-MMP1 block, preserve vertex order and shorten paths, with its own UI and lesson drafts. Exact source and installed asset hashes.

Dissection reference photographs

Five photographs from Dr. Erion de Andrade’s supplied glioma-connectome lecture accompany selected Compare steps. They show left lateral dissections with anterior at image left. Original highlights and watermarks are preserved. The specimen photographs and the group atlas have independent geometry, viewpoints and colour conventions. The photographs do not supply patient registration, functional measurements, surgical margins or missing 3D layers.
